SquishyTutorialsx (a.k.a. Rez) is a YouTuber and a killer Instagram feed content creator. She’s popular on both platforms with thousands of followers.
She didn’t get to the top by churning out content that is 100% hers, however.
Here are top 3 social media crimes that SquishyTutorialsx has committed.
1. Using other people’s content and slapping filters on them, then proceeding to show them off.
Rez has a knack for taking aesthetically pleasing photos. In fact, she has garnered over 10,000 followers on Instagram because of it. However, most of her content is taken from WeHeartIt. She takes photos (made by other people) and she puts a VSCO filter on them then posts them as her own, without proper attribution. A Malaysian guy has pointed this out, saying he’s putting watermarks on his pictures so that a certain “idkrez” wouldn’t be able to steal his precious uploads.
2. Promoting stealing.
Rez does giveaways often. She gives out things that aren’t even hers to begin with, such as a pirated copy of Photoshop CS6. Her fans don’t seem to notice that this is wrong, though.
3. Using people.
Rez doesn’t buy her paid apps, instead, she uses app reward programs such as “Free My Apps”. These programs allow you to get paid apps for free by doing offers. You can also get more points by inviting other people to the program. She does this by sneakily asking people to add her code so that she can have more points. This, coupled with the fact that she has a large fanbase means she can have a large cache of points. Her fans happily join the program with the promise that they’ll get free VSCO filters.
As you can see, Rez is your typical ignorant, entitled teenager. She doesn’t see that what she’s doing is wrong.
If you, dear reader, are planning on starting a YouTube channel teaching other people how to do “aesthetic edits”, then please do not do what Rez is doing.
A reader has sent us screenshots of a post on DeviantArt about Rez. They talk about how she stole a PSD from them. They linked Rez’s video in the thread, but it has since been deleted. (The DeviantArt post was made in January.)
You be the judge.
